Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have limited whiteboard space in my room and some subjects like calculations are easier to teach when writing it out or being able to solve problems. I want to foster a more collaborative environment in my classroom where students can share their work with each other and me in a quick manner. A document camera and whiteboards will allow us to do that.
Students will be able to collaborate by sharing their genetics data papers on the document camera.
A student can showcase their drawing of their model by showing it under the camera or demonstrate their thinking by solving a problem on the camera at the front of the room. It is an easy way to share information with fellow students. The whiteboards will also allow collaboration with each other as they can quickly jot down answers and give feedback to problems in a timely manner. It is also a non-permanent surface which saves room in my small classroom.
The DNA labs will help students to understand the principles of genetics and bacterial transformation. Students will learn how DNA is cut using restriction enzymes and create art using bacteria transformed to create different dyes. This will foster their creativity while deepening their science knowledge.
