My Students
I teach a group of amazing 3rd graders! They are amazing because they are all unique individuals. They are unique because they are all different in their own ways. Some love to read, work with numbers, explore the outdoors, play sports or a musical instrument, write stories, etc.
Some of our students have never read a novel from beginning to end, and we love to share that experience with them while addressing many of the Common Core standards.
We want to instill a love for reading in our students. Right now, most of our reading comes from short stories, but we would love for them to see the joy in reading a novel.
My Project
Our students will read the novel Tornado by Betsy Byars to build their literacy skills and understanding. They will be able to make logical inferences, cite evidence to support their thinking, determine the meaning of words and phrases, and analyze and draw conclusions about characters.
We want our students to be excited when they pick up a book and for them to understand that reading is a great learning experience.
This book will only be a start to the many books they will read in the future. We hope this project will help our students in their love for reading.
