This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a melting pot of ethnicity's and personalities where over 90% of students receive free and reduced lunch. We accept all students, regardless of disability or background. Each child is accepted for their individuality and differences. Our amazing student Isabella was diagnosed with macular suppression a few short years ago. This condition is slowly stealing her eyesight. Our goal as a school is to help her, through the use of visual supports, surpass all of her academic goals despite this disability.
My Project
Due to my student's macular suppression, she is not able to see things straight in front of her; she must look slightly up or down in order to see anything. This can make tasks such as reading very difficult for her and also make it so that she has to bring any materials close to her face in order to see it. Isabella is currently working on learning braille as well as a walking cane. The iPad Air 2 and keyboard will make it much easier for her to read and complete her assigned school tasks. She is a bright, articulate young lady who we hope to help accomplish her dreams through the use of technology.
