My students need adding and subtracting with regrouping hands-on manipulatives. They struggle knowing how the values of numbers compose and decompose. This use of this activity will give a visual to aid them in regrouping.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach second grade, at a small neighborhood school in Texas. My class consist of a wide range of academic levels (Special Needs to GT). The majority of my students are on free and reduced lunch. They are provided breakfast everyday with the help from a Federal program. Most of my students come from households with only one income where they struggle to make ends meet.
My students deserve the best opportunities possible.
With the help of donor choose I am hoping to provide them with engaging hands-on activities.
My Project
The Hands On Regrouping activities will provide my students with visual aids that will allow them to enhance their adding and subtracting knowledge. The Step by Step Bar Models will provide the students with "real life" scenarios and practice. I plan on incorporating the use of these activities during my guided math block.
The students will be able to see how numbers can be manipulated to form new numbers.
The above activities will allow the students to work individually or in a small group that will aid in their growth. All students will benefit from these activities from learning to add and subtract to challenging them to add and subtract larger numbers.
