This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently work in the South Bronx, NY. Our students have a lot of potential that needs to be nurtured. Most of my students live locally within walking distance, and some travel by school bus, city bus to our school. They live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. Some of them live with grandparents or other family members and some live in shelters. Nearly all of them come from low‑income households and qualify to receive free lunch. They are growing up in a tough neighborhood, one of the poorest in the United States, and often faced difficulties at such an early age. But our students work hard and they are excited and eager to learn.
Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming, and warm environment in the classroom so they could know how special they are.
We always start our day with positive affirmations hoping that they carry these words with them in their life to help them remember their worth.
My Project
Due to the pandemic, some of our students have been facing some challenges doing their independent work. By inviting them to visit our Math Toy Store and get a toy of their preference, we want to motivate them to continue doing their independent work on iXL, Reflex, and iReady.
We have been providing students the opportunity to visit the Math Toy store on a weekly basis when they complete the math challenge for that week and have seen a great result in students' work and motivation.
We would like to provide students the opportunity to continue visiting the Math Toy Store. This project will help us get more toys and educational games. Not only students will love them but will also learn from them.
