Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I’m beginning a new journey as the music teacher at a new school and in a new district. It’s both exciting and meaningful, especially because I have the chance to help rebuild a music program that hasn’t been active for quite some time.
After a few years without a steady music program, this is a beautiful moment to bring music back and build a strong foundation for the future.
My goal is to create a space where students feel welcome, excited, and encouraged to explore music in all its forms through singing, movement, instruments, rhythm, and learning about music from different cultures.
I’m requesting curriculum resources and hands-on materials that will help bring music to life in the classroom. Tools such as soprano recorders, egg shakers, and musical scarves will not only help with teaching the fundamentals, but also make lessons more engaging and fun for students. I believe music should be a class they look forward to, where they can be creative, express themselves, and learn something new every time they walk through the door.
