This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Although my students come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood where lack of resources available in their city places them at disproportionate levels, my students never cease to amaze me. Their parents work long hours, night shifts, or handle two jobs just to make ends meet. My students recognize and understand how vital their education is and never take it for granted.
My students' strong work ethic, endless desire to learn and strive, inspire me to advocate and be their voices!
They know they have an opportunity to make a difference and be astronauts, lawyers, chefs, teachers, doctors and with an education, the sky’s the limit.
My Project
My students learn best through hands on experiences and providing a Hermit Crab Terrarium will allow my students the opportunity to learn the next generation science standards. Through the terrarium my visual and kinesthetic learners will be engaged in physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture.
Learning does NOT have to be abstract!
My students will explore adaptations and recognize the common structures and characteristics of different organisms.
By getting front row seats to a hermit crab’s life cycle, my students will learn and appreciate the physical adaptations animals use for survival. These materials will make a significant difference by providing a “hands on” approach to learning!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
