Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"Do Good Things, Be Good People" has been my motto since 2009 with my students- starting back during my student teaching. I feel that it's important that student focus on the part to whole when it comes to social emotional learning. Everyday the special education teachers that I work with are asking for more resources for social emotional learning.

We focus on the fact that we have about 410 moments to "Do Good Things and Be Good People" during the day.

Every tough time that students have during the day is a "tough moment" and the special education teachers work to teach, remind and embed that same mindset to the students. This allows a student to use their SEL tools to work through their tough moments during the day and ensure that the tough 5 minute moment won't take away from the rest of the 405 moments in the day. With these materials, my students can learn, explore, and process social emotional learning, problem solving and information in a hands-on, tactile way which enables them to learn differently than just rote listening in their classroom.
