Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are some of the most hardworking students in our school.

All of my students are special education students.

They are students with Autism, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Language Disabilities or Other Health Impairments.

These disabilities make learning more difficult for them. In addition, over 65% of my students are English Language Learners, many of these students are still learning how to speak English. Our school has the highest Hispanic population in the state. Our school also qualifies as a Title One School: over 85% of our students live in poverty and receive free/reduced lunch. Despite all of these obstacles, these students are eager to come to school each day. They always try their best and never give up when they face hardships. The students at this school are really special, and their enthusiasm and willingness to learn make teaching them such a joy.

My Project

My students love to test their math skills through games. Studies show that students learn more when they are engaged and having fun. Sometimes it can be hard to play our games correctly without the right materials. One game they love the most is Jeopardy. If my students had a class set of wireless answer buzzers, they would be able to play Jeopardy correctly. Right now, we are taking turns playing on teams. I would love to get a class set so that every student had a chance to play. This would not only make the game more efficient but it would also allow us to solve more math problems because we would not need to take turns.
