My Students
Our school is a project based learning school which allows the students to be creative and use critical thinking to solve everyday problems. We are a large charter school in the heart of one of the largest cities in the state but we pride ourselves on maintaining a small community feel.
We work together to help create a rewarding and enriching learning environment that focuses on the strengths of the students.
My students are curious by nature and just need the right tools in their hands to explore. We want to give them opportunities to see what it is like to work in labs that can be found right here in their own back yard-The Research Triangle Park. Hopefully, this will spark their interest in becoming future scientists and who knows maybe one of them will be the one to find the cure to cancer!
My Project
My students will be using the thermal cycler and the centrifuge in our new Biotechnology course that we are offering at the school. We want the students to have the experience of creating the samples from start to finish rather then us buying the samples because we feel it makes the experience more authentic for them.
Also, it will make them understand the role of the lab technicians and what will happen in the lab on a daily basis.
The students will be able to prepare for PCR from start to finish rather than buying pre-made DNA samples. This allows for a more authentic learning experience.
