My Students

My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. My students are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to the country. We have a rather large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school excited to learn each day. Their excitement pushes me to do my best in creating lessons that will feed into their excitement.

My students perform the best when lessons are engaging and allow them to become part of what we are learning.

Students need to feel as if they are deeply connected to the history we are studying. Technological scientific resources are available for students to make deep connections to what we are studying. DNA Ancestry kits for my classroom will allow for my students to make deep connections to their past and understand who they are and where they come from.

My Project

My students love to learn and their eyes fill the room with light when they have the aha! moments during lessons. These glowing moments come when students develop a deep understanding of curriculum, make connections across content areas and most of all, when they develop a personal connection to the history taught.

DNA Ancestry kits will allow for my students to not only to develop a strong connection to the curriculum that I teach, but to gain a priceless insight on their ancestral roots.

This knowledge of who they are and where they come from will carry on for their lifetime and generations after. The data and discoveries made from the DNA Ancestry kits will allow me to create lessons on data analysis, to teach human migration, and to highlight the various histories of students in my classroom.
