This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a dual language program, biliteracy development occurs throughout the school year with authentic curriculum and workbooks. Two languages are given equal importance in the students’ educational setting. The classroom environment is print-rich and color coded blue for English and red for Spanish vocabulary.

Various materials are needed to keep school work and materials organized by the home language and target language.

The standing pocket chart will be used for simple conversational vocabulary cards. The pastel blue and pastel pink post it notes will be used for student responses and by color in accordance to the language of the writing prompt. The yellow prong folders are my favorite type of folder for writing in a dual language classroom. The prongs allow me to put in vocabulary picture charts in sheet protectors and one side of the folder is for English work while the other side is for Spanish work. The sheet protectors allow for easy customization of words students need as they write throughout the year. The dry-erase sentence strips will be sued to provide language objective supports such as sentence starters in either language.

These organizational tools will help us keep our dual language program running smoothly throughout the year. Students will be able to interact with and use the materials independently.
