This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of amazing children who have many goals and aspirations. Many of my students struggle with the barriers of poverty, language acquisition, special needs and parents working very long hours; however, these factors serve as motivation to push my students to be better and more focused with their efforts.
My classroom is special because the students I teach are so engaged and willing to learn that they push me to be the best teacher that I can be for them.
Even during remote learning, students were constantly pushing themselves to complete their work. They were constantly seeking out new learning opportunities, as well as continuing to push themselves to do their best in these unknown circumstances.
My Project
We know that times are difficult right now. However, even during these difficult times, my students are still seeking out opportunities to be creative. I want to continue to engage them in their creative process.
I want them to see themselves as makers and through their creations, bring joy to not only themselves, but their community as well.
I want students to design and create their own slogans that call attention to issues that are taking place in our world today. I want to give students the opportunity to be both creative and advocates.
Through the use of these materials, students will be able to work either in person or remotely to create call to action pieces. Students will be given access to various design options where they can create their visual representation. These designs will then be cut, using any of the variety of materials requested in the medium of their choice.
A great way to engage students in STEM learning is to tap into their creative and exploratory nature. Giving students this creative outlet will allow students to engage in current events, as well as allowing them to take pride in something that they have created while delving into the world of STEM.
