This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Some of the students in our sixth grade urban school district thought that they were going to "DIGEST" a frog! That's what they told some of the other teachers when we began to discuss our future science experiment!

When we realized that many of our sixth grade students quite literally had no idea what "DISSECT" meant, we knew that we had chosen the perfect learning activity.

Scalpels, tweezers, magnifying glasses... my grade level partner was fortunate enough to get these items with her previous request. Now we might as well put them to good use and continue to make comparisons with other parts of the anatomy, and we're hoping that you will help us make that happen with a fetal pig dissection. For our last project, we watched our observers, who literally couldn't pronounce the word "dissection", turn into scientists right before our eyes! They were able to identify the esophagus, the trachea and the Eustachian tube of the frog. They were able to describe the differences and similarities between the functioning of the frog and the human body! If that's not learning, we don't know what is!

When our students asked if they could dissect a fetal pig, after watching a computerized dissection, we knew that we should advocate on their behalf. Now we are ready to create the same learning experiences with a fetal pig dissection! There's nothing like experiencing the excitement of teaching and learning and people like you are the ones who make it happen! These are opportunities of a lifetime and like you, we're willing to do whatever we can to make it happen.
