This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an urban population with all the earmarks of a struggling city. We have less new materials, and the one we have are not enough for every teacher, than other schools. I feel that my students are special because they face this every day and still come to school. And want to learn. They are eager to learn all that is available to them but it is very difficult to do some things virtually. They need the hands-on experience to make the materials relevant.

My Project

I have asked for so many things (again) because there is such a need in my building. These materials, pH testers, Blood grouping analyzers and the forensics kits are all being used to teach Biology in my school by 8 separate teachers. We are all teaching the same material all at the same time, which leaves some of us scrambling to find enough materials to use.

I am trying to move to a more open planning and lab format in my class for this year and next.

By having a Modeling Mitosis and Meiosis kit, the students can not only vitalize the process but make the process happen in front of them. Modeling is a very powerful tool even as a high school age student.

Having proper microscope slide sets, like Discovering Onion Mitosis Self-Study Unit, Microscope Slide Set, and Discovering Human Blood Self-Study Unit, Microscope Slide Set , lets them see an example for themselves.

The Carolina ABO-Rh Typing with Synthetic Blood Kit lets them do simulated lab testing and can be use to stimulate inquiry activities and real world scenarios.
