My Students

I teach in an urban school in northern New Jersey. My students are in an inclusion classroom with special needs. They also live in a lower socioeconomic area. I love to give the children every opportunity to learn. The children are eager learners and love to try anything that is new and exciting. We work hard in Pre-K to learn the basics of reading, writing, and math.

My class is made up of fifteen wonderful, innocent children, who are absolutely amazing.

They are from various backgrounds such as Puerto Rico, Philippines, Peru, India, and Trinidad. They teach me something about themselves and about me every day.

I feel lucky to spend my day teaching them what it is like to have fun learning and to motivate them to keep on learning in everything they do. I think it's great for them to keep on questioning me and all the adults and other children in their life, and to broaden their outlooks and expectations of school and life.

My Project

Help me give my students books that take them to a new world, give them new experiences, and allow them a window into other cultures.

Who we are as individuals is part of who we have become as educators.I teach beyond tolerance.

I encourage my students to learn as much as possible about everything they can.

Books allow us to dive into worlds unknown, they open doors to countries we will never visit, and they teach us that there is more to life than just what's outside our windows.

We have consciously or subconsciously weaved our biases and experiences into the classroom. As we reflect on our practices, we need to identify who we are, and how our core values impact our students.
