My Students
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." depicts my class. My students are very inquisitive. It is not uncommon for a lesson to take many different paths due to valuing curiosity and differing perspectives.
We are a small neighborhood school in a big district that relies on our community support to get things done.
I am truly lucky in that I have supportive and concerned parents. My students are eager and energetic learners. Our class is far from your quiet teacher-led classroom. Our classroom thrives on communication and questions both on and off topic tends to be our guide. One of the goals of our classroom room is to hear and value each others different perspectives.
My Project
Wonder, Stargirl, Firegirl, and Because of Mr. Terupt are all literary titles that will help my students understand and appreciate the perspectives of others. Students will read and interpret the perspective of the characters using evidence from the literary text. Students will be asked to write from the perspective of the characters using evidence from the literary text to predict outcomes.
The goal of this project is to help students to see from the lens of another. At the end of this project, the goal is for students to see the value in the thoughts and opinions of others. As a teacher I hope to teach my students that we all have a voice in this world and that our goal should be to share our voice while hearing the voices of others.
Donations to my project will assist my students in understanding the diverse world in which we live.
It is important for us to understand and be understanding of those around us who may have a different perspective. Wonder, Stargirl, Firegirl, and Because of Mr. Terupt addresses the issues of acceptance, kindness, bullying, and diversity in a way that my students can understand and make personal connections. It is my desire that the lessons in these stories becomes a part of their lives.
