Our program has successfully recruited many more students to the program this year. Last year we ended the season with 5 and began with 8 student athletes, this year we will have 12.
Our goal for this project is to provide athletes with items vital for a positive swimming season.
Teaching swimming to black and brown students in this community will reduce the risk of drowning incidents. 64% of Black children cannot swim, and only 40% of white children cannot swim. We know that our students will come to us not knowing how to swim one stroke, but by the end of the season, they have learned and competed and have learned to swim all four strokes.
Having the Epson color printer will allow the coaches to print out the scorecards before a swim meet, and passes for the student athletes. The Bluetooth speaker allows us to play music on the deck prior to hosting the meets and to have access to a microphone to announce the various teams that will be on deck, these items will allow us to be organized and prepared.
