Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title One school therefore funding is low for classroom needs such as books. My students are a very diverse group of students with varying backgrounds. They also have a wide range of abilities which requires constant differentiation of instruction to reach them all. I work alongside some awesome English Language teachers and Exceptional Children's teachers in order for us all to come together and have the greatest impact on my students. It truly takes a village to teach and reach students.

Children need literature that speaks to them in a personal way.

They crave authentic instruction and authentic learning. As their teacher, I am obligated and committed to providing them with as many opportunities as I can to view the world in the eyes of others.

My Project

My 3rd graders LOVE reading and listening to stories everyday. I strive to give them a variety of texts and books that pertain to all people in all different walks of life. Stories with strong female roles, African American, Hispanic and Indian Cultures will be highlighted and displayed.

These books will provide multicultural perspectives through the art of storytelling.

Students will get a chance to see the world through someone else's eyes. They will be able to hear stories about children who face hardships. They will read stories about their own culture and see themselves represented in books as well as developing a sense of cultural awareness.
