Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I serve are truly inspiring. Everyday they come to school eager and ready to learn despite their many daily struggles. My student population is composed of a high population of low socio-economic students with a high percentage of English language learners. Despite transitioning and struggling to acquiring a new language many of them come to school every day ready to learn as much as they possibly can.
The students that I see on a regular basis come to me with a disadvantage compared to the rest of their peers.
Many of them are still struggling to learn how to read on grade level, and they're barely beginning to make the connections to their own pieces of text. For additional support they come to me throughout the week where I have the opportunity to work with them in a smaller setting. I get the chance to work with them on their individual needs and support them with extensive interventions to promote their success in all subject areas.
My Project
A variety of mentor text will give students the opportunity to expand their thinking and get to learn about other cultures and differences. With exposure to cultural similarities and differences students will have the opportunity to make connections to themselves and to our ever changing society.
In addition to diverse literature, the professional resources will help me as an educator to meet the needs of my students by building my capacity to help them.
Expanding on my knowledge allows me to impact more than one student at a time. A variety of new research and practices will help me to empower my students to extend their thinking and build them as productive life long citizens.
