it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach ENL (English as a New Language) in a District 75 high school. District 75 provides highly specialized instructional support for students with significant challenges, such as: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Significant cognitive delays, Emotional disabilities, Sensory impairments, and Multiple disabilities. My students are amazing, courageous, and determined human beings challenged with disabilities as well as language challenges. My students come from many different backgrounds, that is why it is so important to teach them about diversity and inclusion. I am in need of books that are diverse and inclusive.
My students need to be exposed to material that they can relate to, but also learn about differences as well; the presence of diversity and inclusion in the classroom allows students to consider perspectives and opinions beyond those they’ve already formed.
By presenting students with viewpoints far different from their own, it gives them the opportunity to think critically about their own beliefs and examine the world in fresh ways.
