This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students all have one or more disability and many come from low-income, immigrant families. The goal I have for my classroom is to help them realize they aren't alone in the world or their education. Each of these books describes a main character or family that comes from a minority (Asian, African American, Mexican American, etc.)
By seeing their own stories reflected in literature their engagement and excitement will increase.
This is especially for my students with learning disabilities that challenge their attention, understanding, and fluency in reading. With their difficulties in school they need every opportunity to successfully engage in the curriculum.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
