This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Have you ever had a child come up to you and say -- I see myself/my family/my friend in this story? It's one of the most rewarding moments of being a librarian.
SEL-focused stories showcase characters and situations that help our young readers understand the emotions they are feeling as well as the diverse world around them.
This generation of students is more connected than ever through social media. The need for them to develop empathy/sympathy and an understanding as well as a celebrating of differences is key to a more harmonious future.
It is my hope that sharing stories like these with my 400 bookworms will open their minds to the possibilities around them, and that they will see not just differences but similarities in experiences, feelings and people who surround them.
