Help me give my students the diverse picture books for mentor texts and the chapter books to use in novel studies! These books are either about other cultures or highlight common phrases and stories in different languages.

My Students
A majority of my students come from low-income/high-poverty households. A high percentage of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. As a teacher, I see and hear about many of the challenges they face each day. One of the challenges we battle most often is the lack of experiences outside of our small town and diversity that will allow students to be prepared and successful as global citizens.
My goal is to provide the students with a diverse classroom library and opportunities to "see" the world outside of our little town as well as the people and traditions that are different from ours.
Many of my students are not familiar with the world outside of a 25-mile radius of our town, so I'm trying to provide plenty of positive opportunities for my students to read about and virtually visit places that they may be unfamiliar with. This is important to me because as a teacher, I am trying to prepare them for a world that is made of many people and diverse views.
My Project
I have chosen picture books as well as chapter books to appeal to the various reading levels and interest levels of the students in my classroom. These materials will allow the students to read about similar cultures and historical time frames and still meet them at their multiple levels. The diverse reads will also open up opportunities to make connections to the social studies curriculum as well.
The materials listed in this project will allow my students to read about diverse cultures around the world as well as major political and social movements through the eyes of the cultures that were affected the most.
