This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom come from differing backgrounds, but all of them bring a unique personality to our community of learners. My students come from low-income/high poverty homes, and with that comes different challenges. As their teacher, it is my duty to provide the safest and warmest environment for them to have their best opportunity for learning. My students need me to be more than just their teacher. Sometimes I'm a nurse, counselor, friend, mom, or superhero, and with that, I strive to help my students in any way possible.

My Project

I just recently found out I am getting the opportunity to loop up with my students to go on to third grade. I am so excited to continue working with my students and building our relationships! Since I've been in the second grade classroom for the past 4 years the majority of my books do not reach a high enough reading level that is needed for ending on the grade level mark for third grade. This past year I saw the most growth and on grade level in reading in my students than I have in any years previous and I would like this trend to continue.

With your help the books on this list will continue to help my students grow their already improved reading levels.

I whole-heartedly believe it is due to the amount of high-quality books I have received through my Donor's Chose projects. I currently have a system in place where students are able to check out books and take them home for the week and I would plan on continuing this with them in this upcoming school year. I need your support to help get these new diverse chapter books, which are at the higher guided reading levels, in my classroom library.

All of the books I have included in this list included characters from diverse ethnic backgrounds. I want to make sure my students are able to see themselves as well as other cultures in the books they read. I have also included several graphic novels with female leads so my students can understand that comic books are not just something boys can enjoy.
