I am lucky to work with a wonderful group of students ranging from preschool to 6th grade. My students are in the general education and multiple disabilities classrooms. They love to learn new things and interact in the small group setting.
My students all have individualized speech and language goals, and therefore use different materials/activities to work towards achieving their goals.
I use these materials to support what their classroom teacher is teaching them while focusing on their speech, language, and pragmatic goals.
My students' goals range from improving their speech (articulation) to expanding and developing their ability to effectively communicate. Every week I try to find new and engaging ways to help them enjoy and learn in my classroom.
My Project
I work with a very diverse group of students. I have realized this summer that my books do not highlight the different ethniticites of my students. Literacy is an important component of speech therapy. When reading a book in small group, we can work on language and articulation goals.
All of these books will be used for speech therapy lessons.
They will help my students see themselves represented in the lesson. Some of the books talk about influential people in history, and will lead to lessons about black history. The fictional books can be used to talk about daily life and reading comprehension questions. Lastly, I have added some sanitation wipes because in these times we can never have enough cleaning products!
