Every day, the 25 students in my classroom walk through the door and bring with them a wide variety of cultures, languages, religions, experiences, interests, and special abilities.
We celebrate our differences and recognize our similarities.
Though there are so many differences in our classroom, one similarity is that my students share a love of learning. They exemplify the IB Learner Profile as Inquirers, Communicators, Thinkers and Knowledgable citizens. I aim to provide them with the tools they need to succeed.
My Project
I have created this project to provide my students with the opportunity to have a positive learning experience and do the best they can do.
Because no student is the same, each student has very different needs.
The tools in this project will help my students reach their full potential.
Wobble stools and cushions, resistance bands, and fidgets will help active students refocus their attention by providing a quiet, kinesthetic outlet to release extra energy, frustration, and anxiety. Weighted blankets and headphones will calm students who feel anxious or overwhelmed. Textured chew necklaces will provide a safe object for students to satisfy oral stimulation needs; chewing not only provides a sensory filter, but it also improves concentration and builds oral and facial muscles. Twist N Write Pencils improve fine motor skills and handwriting, and reading strips will improve literacy skills by helping students to concentrate on small sections of text at one time. Finally, visual timers will aid students by keeping them on task, making transitions more manageable, and promoting independence.
