Help me give my students a diverse classroom library that sparks an interest so they can be on the road to become better readers and fall in love with books on that path.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first year teacher starting in January in the city of Canoga Park at a Title 1 school. The school community is a great loving community that works together to better assist the children at our school. Although I haven’t met my students just yet, I know the entire school is filled with children who deserve an amazing library filled with diverse characters that represent them. These students are bright, sweet, and full of determination. Our students never seize to loose their spark or motivation to keep learning despite what may be going on outside their classroom. My students are working towards building their reading skills and love to read books that really spark their interest.
My Project
I am a first year teacher that will be teaching her first class half way through the year. As I am going in to a new classroom, completely empty, my students don’t have the classroom library they deserve or need. My students need to see representation of themselves through literature. This is why I want to build a classroom library with books that they can identify and stories they can relate to. I want to supply them with books that are not only diverse and inclusive, but I want to give them access to books that will catch their interest so that they can become better readers.
