This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from all over the world. As the full time English as a Second Language teacher in my school, my students represent over 10 different countries and cultures. My students are inquisitive and eager to learn. They appreciate education and love to participate in new projects. My students are always willing and excited to learn!
My Project
In our distance learning and in in-person classrooms we love to read books and listen to stories. They absolutely love it! However, oftentimes my students are unable to see themselves in these stories that we read together. With this diverse classroom library, my students will be able to see themselves and their cultures represented in ways that speak directly to them. This diversified classroom library includes representation for all my students. The goal is for the students to feel included as a part of the classroom, school, and community through the stories and images in these books. I want my students to feel welcomed and celebrated because of their diverse backgrounds, not in spite of them. A library that represents all students of different cultures and backgrounds is a small step we can take in promoting inclusion and helping students feel welcomed and appreciated.
