This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember that first series of books you read as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and then finally reading the prized next installment in your favorite series. My students share that excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally devouring the newest books in their favorite series.
Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative.
As English language learners, books are so important to my students and they help them better understand this new exciting world. I am a 1st grade teacher in an impoverished urban area. Our classroom library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on my classroom library to read high-quality books. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to read these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in my class. I want to do everything in my power to develop the next generation of enthusiastic readers!
My Project
We were so overwhelmed to see just how many people supported our first goal to create a more diverse classroom library! To add to this, we'd like to purchase more books to continue to grow our library.
With your support, we will be able to help children better see themselves represented in the books they read.
All of the books purchased will be used in our comfy classroom library, where students will have the opportunity to read quality books that represent the communities they interact with on a daily basis.
