My Students

I have many diverse students at my school in Detroit, MI. They have different needs, but they all love to learn. They are eager students who come to school every day ready to learn. They work hard academically and at their character every day. Though I have high expectations, I am surprised daily when they surpass them.

My students need to see that their teacher and community believe in them.

They need to see that they are capable of being successful. They also need to see that they are deserving of the resources needed to be successful.

My students are very goal oriented. They love to see how they progress academically and then get even better. These students rely on school for structure, safety, learning, and fun. These students need a lot of love and they deserve every resource possible to help them be successful.

My Project

Many of my students are reading more than a full grade level behind. To help support reading growth, I need to teach them to love reading. One way do do that is to have books on diverse topics. Another way to do that, is have books with characters that look like them.

Children deserve to feel represented in books.

They deserve to feel like they relate to characters. They also should see characters that look like them. When children relate to books, they are more likely to want to read them. The more a child loves to read, the more they will read. These new books will help my students to feel represented in texts and get them excited about reading.
