This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have great kids! They're the kind of kids who will hold a door open for you or help you carry a box without asking. They may not have much money, but they are smart, polite, and creative.
We like to do engaging outside-the-textbook work.
In our class, we like to read plays, do projects, research our family histories, create vision boards, and explore the world through virtual reality.
My students are most drawn in when the work is relevant to their personal experience.
My Project
In our classroom, books are celebrated! We take time every single day to read together.
If you help provide new, diverse, fun books that my students WANT to read, I will give them time to read together.
Every day, we read books, talk about books, and write about books. I have learned that students will read more of a book they select themselves than of a book I select for them. In turn, we also create lifelong readers and learners.
I tell them that the best gift I could give them if I had unlimited funds is the gift of reading because it opens doors to everything.
