Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all walks of life and are different in many ways. Their diversity makes them unique and beautiful. Even with their many differences, they all share one thing: their love for reading. My students look forward to opening up a new book and immersing themselves in a story!

The COVID-19 pandemic heavily impacted my students.

They lost approximately 17 months of in-person instruction, resulting in the loss of academic and social-emotional skills. Many of my students did not have access to books or other reading material to build their literacy skills.

A classroom library with diverse, culturally authentic books in the classroom library will allow my students to meet people like themselves and develop an appreciation for the beauty of their culture and the cultures of others. They will advance their literacy skills along with their social-emotional skills.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will advance their reading, writing, and social-emotional skills. Students will increase their knowledge in RL.4.1, RL.4.2, RL.4.3, RL.4.7, RL.4.9, and RL.4.10. When students advance their reading skills, they also advance their writing skills. Students will be able to write informational and opinion pieces using book sources. They will meet W.4.1, W.4.2, and W.4.7.

If my students have access to a diverse and engaging classroom library, they will meet academic standards, which will help them be successful inside and outside the classroom.

Advancing their reading and writing skills will boost their confidence!
