Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the great privilege of teaching students in New York City public school, specifically in the borough of Manhattan. In our classroom, I try to integrate as much technology as possible, recognizing how important these skills are in a 21st-century classroom, comprised of digital natives.

Students in our school are extremely motivated, driven, and creative individuals.

Nothing would make me happier than to send them each off to Middle School, prepared for the exciting learning beyond elementary school!

My Project

Students are more interested in reading when they can identify with the characters in the books they're reading. Unfortunately, my current library is lacking in books from diverse backgrounds. All of the books I have requested include characters who have experiences from diverse cultures, racial backgrounds, and disabilities.

With these books, I'll be able to place diverse books into my students' hands.

I will use them for read-aloud videos posted online during remote teaching days. We will use these books to spark classroom discussions, as writing prompts, and for our reading pleasure!
