My Students
I teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of my students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, my students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum.
All of my students require individual or small group attention.
Each day, I incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of my students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. My students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.
My Project
My students absolutely love to read and are excited each week to go "book shopping" in our library for new books. As the weeks go by, my students are becoming better and better readers. Many of my students have already read most of the books in our library and are craving different books! Our class is a mixed bag of nationalities and race. Our students deserve to read books about characters just like them! These diverse books with diverse characters will make a huge difference in the reading experiences of my diverse learners!
The best thing about first grade is watching our students become better readers everyday; these new, diverse chapter books would be the PERFECT addition to our classroom library.
With so many of my students ready for chapter books, we are looking obtain some fun series for our students to enjoy! My students go crazy for June B. Jones and the Yasmin series. Additionally, I really think they would love to dive into the Pedro and King and Kayla books.
