This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Los Angeles, CA. My fourth graders are vibrant, funny, intelligent students. They are passionate about exploring the world around them and have aspirations to graduate from high school and go on to four-year colleges and universities.
My school, along with the rest of LAUSD, has recently announced that we will continue to distance learn in the fall.
My goal is to make sure that my students have everything they need to have to have a successful first semester of fourth grade, despite learning at home.
These learners are unique in their learning styles and preferences. I try to teach them concepts in multiple ways to best access their learning potential! This includes incorporating movement and art into everyday lessons.
My Project
As a newer teacher, I inherited most of the books in my classroom library. Many of the books are old, dusty, and outdated. One thing that needs to happen in classrooms everywhere is available literature for all students that is inclusive and racially and ethnically diverse.
My students come from a diverse city, so the books they read should reflect that.
My goal is to foster anti racist discussions that is age appropriate, while using children's books to initiate conversation. My hope is that my students will be able to see themselves in these books, as well as grow their ability to empathize with others. These books will be held in the hands of deserving students for many years to come.
