Diverse Books for a Diverse Classroom

Help me give my students a library that is full of diverse reading options!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Newton's classroom raised $692

My Students

I teach at a rural elementary school in Central Florida. I am fortunate enough to work with a diverse group of students who present me with new experiences every day! My students come from a variety of social/emotional, economic and behavioral backgrounds. My students come to school every day eager to learn and become leaders.

Through empowerment my students are able to take ownership of their feelings, goals, and learning in ways that will enrich their educational experience for the rest of their lives!

In our classroom I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met in the manner most conducive to their learning style. Each child is an individual with amazing potential waiting to be unlocked!

My Project

My school community is extremely diverse and features students from many cultures and backgrounds. My students need books that help to portray some of their experiences.

Having books in my library that can act as windows and mirrors for my students will deepen their love for reading, and allow them to also learn about other cultures and unique experiences as well.

By providing my students with these books, they will be immersed in experiences that they may not experience or learn about otherwise. When children have a better understanding of the world around them, they are empowered to break barriers and go even further then ever imagined.
