Diverse Book Club Choices!

Help me give my students books with a diverse variety of characters and perspectives to choose from when participating in book clubs in language arts class!

My Students

I work with approximately 120 amazing sixth graders. I teach a diverse bunch of fun-loving students. I have many students whose first language is Spanish. I also have many students whose first language is English, but have chosen to be a part of my district's Two-Way Immersion program, and are fluent in both English and Spanish. My students are SO talented and unique in all of their own ways. I work towards are fully inclusive classroom for students of ALL abilities. When my students enter sixth grade, they are wide-eyed and anxious. When they leave sixth grade, they are confident, bold, and ready for what lies ahead of them in middle school!

My Project

Did you know that giving students choice in the books they read highly increases their motivation and gives them ownership in their learning? With this project, I will be able to provide ample choices of diverse books for my students to choose from. This allows students to access books they are interested in and help them get excited about reading!

Book clubs will be a common practice in my classroom because they allow for collaboration and teamwork.

This motivates students to delve deep into their novels and work hard towards a common goal. I can't wait to get my students hooked on these amazing books in our book club studies!
