My students need engaging literature to serve as springboards for introducing math concepts that creatively ignite their imaginations and develop problem-solving skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an intercity elementary teacher, I am always thinking of ways to get my students to experience the love of reading and all of the benefits that comes with this passion. Great math literature gives an engaging introduction to new and reviewed concepts while boosting interest and vocabulary.
My second grade students are intercity children from low income households.
Many are English language learners who struggle with everyday vocabulary. Most do not have books at home, so the libraries that we have in the classroom are very important. They love to learn and be challenged. They crave more experiences and contact with great literature.
My Project
I am asking for math books that correlate with second grade curriculum with titles that combine words and math to illustrate themed concepts. Topics include sorting, addition, subtraction, money, measurement, pattens, time, percentage, fractions, place value, estimating, classifying capacity, multiplication and division.
The excitement of receiving a wonderful set of math literature in my classroom will motivate my second graders to dive into a world of math that help them think more deeply about mathematical ideas.
Thanks for helping them get a great foundation to future success and a desire for life long learning.
