My Students
I work in a New York City, Title One middle school where every student receives free lunch. It is a great school where some students travel from far away to be able to attend. My students are special education students, most of whom are English Language Learners. They are great kids who love to learn. My students are hardworking, curious learners who need access to various texts that will capture their interest and prepare them.
My Project
The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread, is a wonderful novel by Kate DiCamillo. The Newbery Medal-wining The Tale of Despereaux is a thrilling story of a brave, giant-eared mouse in love with a human princess. By directly addressing the reader, the author introduces many concepts to think and talk about. This book is an excellent read-aloud or discussion group book. With its appealing characters, engaging plot, and rich themes, it offers an ideal opportunity to teach students how to comprehend deeply. The students will learn about various themes such as, Compassion and Forgiveness, Family, and Loyalty.
