My Students
As a school located in Queens, NY our classroom has been significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Schools closed on March 16, and have been engaged in remote learning through technology since then. We recently found out that schools will not reopen this year. As a result, my students educational progress will rely solely on their ability to have access to technology, along with my ability to create and deliver lessons that work effectively on that technology. Something that has been challenging thus far.
My Project
Right now it is difficult to provide my students access to the materials they need. Recently I attended an online professional development on how to connect to students better and how to improve feedback to keep students engaged. The problem was that it involved using tools I don't currently have at home. I learned how to do a running record to assess a students reading level with a student online where the student could look at my screen and I could record miscues and note responses using an iPad, Apple pencil, and headphones while viewing them. The problem is while I have an iPad and Apple pencil, I don't have good quality headphones at home. By having good quality headphones I will be able to deliver more effective instruction without distracting background noises and be able to continue assessing my students in this time of new ways of teaching.
