My Students
I am a special education teacher in a NYC public school. We are a Title I school where approximately 80% of our students receive free lunch.
All the different cultures, parents, administration, teachers, and support staff use all our differences within the school population to enhance the academics and social development everyday.
My students range in disabilities and have various learning challenges, speech and language delays, learning disabilities, occupational challenges, reading and writing disabilities, including dyslexia. Most of my students are from low-income families and come from very diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Children with learning disabilities face many challenges and often struggle on a daily basis academically. Seeing their eager smiling faces each day is what makes my job so rewarding, but also seeing them struggling with skills that are required of them to be successful breaks my heart.
My Project
My students way of learning was turned upside down back in March. In an instant my students daily routines and structure was torn apart. They had to overcome obsticle and challenges when Distance Learning became the new norm. My students struggled with getting technology that was reliable and that they did not have to share with other family members. Without it they lost out on valuable teaching experiences and learning opportunities. These tablets would help them become successful and allow them to keep up with their school work from home. We do not know what the new school year will bring but with your help, they will be prepared. Having technology that is reliable is of utmost importance.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
