it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Now in the midst of my 7th year as a teacher for students with special needs, it is absolutely imperative that my students continue to understand the importance of technology as part of their 21st century skills. My students are resilient high schoolers in special day classes with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Due to my upbringing from a low income household, my students resonate with me because they too know what it's like to have the odds stacked against you when trying to obtain higher education. Our school is located in a low income community in South Los Angeles; henceforth, why it's also a Title I school with very limited funding. Graduation rates are unfortunately low, but the students remain diligent young scholars. It's an honor to help them take the proper measures to graduate as their final step before entering college! They are resilient, fun, caring, and deserving of everything that we can creatively muster to provide for them.
My Project
We are slowly building from the ground up, literally. Not only did half our school burn down a few years ago, but we finally implemented full Special Day Classes just last year to meet the needs of our students with special needs. As a result, our small school understandably does not have the necessary technology available to help students meet their IEP (Individualized Education Program) goal requirements. To make matters worse, my personal Macbook was damaged in an accident. The circumstances result in my high school students not having the proper access to higher learning they deserve. This new Macbook pro will not only replace the defective educational tool I've used since the beginning of distance learning, but also allow students to access Google classroom, iReady math, Typing Club, and other virtual tools necessary for better IEPs. It will also allow me to continue taking attendance, write IEPs, log entries, lesson plan, and use proper visuals to meet the needs of my students. Moreover, it would allow me to continue monitoring pertinent data that will be relayed to parents to help them strive to reach their IEP goals.
