This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
On a Friday, March the 13th I said goodbye to my fifth graders for what seemed like a two-week break including Spring Break. Never did I imagine that our break would extend this long. They are the seniors of our school and we had so many activities to celebrate their graduation from elementary school and all of those activities have been canceled.
My students and I are continuing to interact through Microsoft Teams, the Remind app, and through our Zoom meetings which we have twice per week.
We have many pajama days and pet sharing sessions included in our meetings.
Many of my students have school borrowed laptops in order to continue the learning process.
My Project
During these difficult times, the only thing that keeps us going is knowing that we are not alone and that things will get better. Distance learning has brought many new challenges to our lives. It has also taught us that we must continue to teach and learn no matter what. I miss my students dearly, we had so many amazing things planned for their fifth-grade graduation and I feel terribly sad because I won't see them in my classroom again. This class will miss out on so many activities but they won't miss out on my love and attention.
I have chosen some items that I think will keep my students engaged and motivated to finish this school year!
We read two novels together, and they were so excited to choose the next ones. I have included several novels that I think my students would love reading together as a class and have meaningful discussions and instill the love of reading.
