Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher in a Pre-K class at a Title 1 school; I have 20 students that are primarily English Language Learners. During this time of distance learning, we are meeting twice a week on video calls to review different topics addressed but more importantly to read aloud to the children. Many of my students do not have computers and attend these calls on a cellphone.
During this pandemic, I want to continue to instill a love for learning but need the proper materials to do so.
At school, the students are exposed to many materials and activities which they may not have the opportunity to see or use at home. Right now, we do not have adequate materials or books to get us through the end of the school year. I would love to be able to provide my students with valuable learning experiences while on video calls.
My Project
My wonderful students have been working from home for over a month. Using different applications on the cellphones and websites they can access has been the way to keep the learning alive during this time. Currently, we meet twice a week on a video call where I review different topics; the only thing my students and I are missing are read-a-loud sessions.
This distance learning project will give my students the opportunity to read to my students during our video calls.
The books will give me the opportunity to continue to expose my students to a variety of text. As students part of a Title 1 school, many of my students do not have a vast array of books at home; therefore they would benefit greatly from this project.
