Carpe diem! These are the words that greet my students daily as they enter our classroom. I aim to create an environment filled with creativity, educational challenges, happiness, and self-awareness. Every day, my students rise to the challenge and truly seize the day!
My students attend a Title I public school in New York City where nearly all students come from low-income households.
My students are a diverse group of intellectually gifted fourth graders. Their interests are unique and varied, yet they share the trait of innate inquisitiveness. Our classroom is a place of discovery and inquiry. We strive to tap into our higher-order thinking skills on a daily basis, pushing ourselves to explore and think deeply.
My Project
Many of my students will be continuing to learn remotely this year. They worked so hard in the spring and continued to flourish during distance learning. They exemplified determination and a zest for learning.
While I did my best to engage them with everything at my disposal, I realize there are a few things that will make distance learning even more palatable.
A scanner will allow me to give them clear copies of books and documents that will assist them in their learning. Last year, I took photos of everything and uploaded them to our Google Classroom, but they weren’t always easy to read or understand. Having a scanner, along with the thumbprint drives, will allow me to up, old documents clearly for my students to work with. Additionally, I need extra ink and paper to continue printing out materials for my lovely students. I use this daily and also mail various documents to students that need things printed out and do not have access to a printer at home. The tape will allow me to display things easy for my students to see when teaching remotely as well. All the items requested will enhance my distance teaching and thus, my students’ ability to learn effectively.
