This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Classrooms across the globe have been affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic, and mine is no different. In a very short amount of time we went from learning together, singing together, and lots of hugs, to virtual contact only.
It has been a huge adjustment, but my resilient first graders have been trying so hard to connect with me and each other in our virtual classroom.
My students, colleagues, and I have all had to learn an overwhelming amount of new technology, online learning platforms, and pedagogy in such a short amount of time. It has been challenging, exhausting, and frustrating most of the time, but the silver lining comes in the form of connecting with my students - a task that hasn't been easy with my current resources.
My Project
Due to the sudden and rushed nature of our shift to distance learning, and the huge adjustment, I never had the opportunity to fully prepare the resources I have at home. Currently, I am using a laptop that is almost 7 years old and is completely out of internal storage. The old operating system of my laptop makes it impossible for me to use certain programs that would make distance learning more effective for my first graders. In addition, I've taken on the role of technology lead for the first grade teachers at my school, and my outdated laptop makes it difficult for me to help my colleagues navigate the learning platforms that I can't even access myself.
With this new MacBook Air, my students' distance learning experience will be more engaging, exciting, interactive, and effective.
My students will have access to the most up to date platforms and applications and I will be able to guide them there. It will also allow me to help more colleagues connect with their students in an effective way, leading to even greater engagement throughout my school community.
