This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an instructional coach, I usually work with a small group of students that need reteaching or preteaching of grade-level material. Small group instruction is an opportunity for me to provide additional teaching and practice often needed for struggling students to master important skills or understand key concepts (e.g., phonemic awareness skill of manipulating ending sounds, or operations with whole numbers or rational numbers).
Small group instruction also provides an opportunity for me to pre-teach specific vocabulary, challenging text structures, or other prerequisite knowledge to Standard English Learners or any students who may experience difficulty in upcoming lessons.
With distance learning, I don't have the visual tools that I need to target the students that I work with and I need your help to get my home to resemble my classroom.
My Project
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to give my students enough scaffolding as I normally would if I was in the classroom. I need a whiteboard and somewhere to hang the posters and thinking maps. As we move forward to summer school and continuing distance learning from home it is important that I add rigor to my lessons and support all my students.
Serving all my students means differentiating my instruction to fit their needs.
I realize that I need to provide more examples and at the moment I don't have anything to write on and they need that visual representation.
