Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My English Learners are eager to learn. We are in a large district with a high rate of children who are living in poverty. Our school community is a hotspot for Covid-19. Many of my English Learners do not have the technology or enough learning materials at home to have an equitable learning environment.
Despite these challenges they have been working as hard as they can to continue their learning.
These students have a wonderful drive to learn and grow. These materials will hep my English Learners stay engaged while learning at home.
My Project
These workbooks will allow them the opportunity to practice skills across all subject areas. The playing cards will help them practice basic math facts and concepts in an engaging way. They also need basic supplies such as the notebooks and crayons to complete assignments and complete extension activities.
My English Learners will continue their learning at home through the same hands on activity based learning we do in our classroom.
These distance learning materials will help my English Learners prepare for the next grade level and give them the opportunity to succeed!
