Distance Learning for Art

Help me give my students basic art supplies such as colored pencils, watercolor paints, and paper that are desperately needed for distance learning.

My Students

My students left school on our last day together with nothing more than their computers and a WiFi hotspot.

I was not able to send them with their sketchbooks or any art supplies from our classroom to help aid them in their distance learning.

My Project

On our last day of school, we were excited to be leaving for spring break. It wasn't until the last two hours of school that many of us teaching specials classes had time to read the emails that we were prepping for distance learning. During my last class of the day, I received the email that class for Friday was canceled and that we needed to take everything home for distance learning that day. I gave my last hour students every worksheet I had printed in my art room and let them take whatever they wanted. None of us knew that it would be the last time we would be together for the rest of the year. I teach at a Title I school and all of my students qualify for free or reduced-rate lunch. The supplies they have at home are sparse. It breaks my heart that I was not able to give them more. I am currently trying to teach art online for the remainder of the year and my students seem lost. Being able to offer students some supplies so they can work on our lessons would mean more than you could know. Art is such an important subject and creative outlet for social and emotional growth. Thank you for helping me support my students in this unprecedented time.
